RESUMEN

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a rare X-linked recessive disorder characterized by loss-of-function mutations in the gene encoding dystrophin. These mutations lead to progressive functional deterioration including muscle weakness, respiratory insufficiency, and musculoskeletal deformities. Three-dimensional gait analysis (3DGA) has been used as a tool to analyze gait pathology through the quantification of altered joint kinematics, kinetics, and muscle activity patterns. Among 3DGA indices, the Gait Profile Score (GPS), has been used as a sensitive overall measure to detect clinically relevant changes in gait patterns in children with DMD. To enhance our understanding of the clinical translation of 3DGA, we report here the development of a population nonlinear mixed-effect model that jointly describes the disease progression of the 3DGA index, GPS, and the functional endpoint, North Star Ambulatory Assessment (NSAA). The final model consists of a quadratic structure for GPS progression and a linear structure for GPS-NSAA correlation. Our model was able to capture the improvement in function in GPS and NSAA in younger subjects, as well as the decline of function in older subjects. Furthermore, the model predicted NSAA (CFB) at 1 year reasonably well for DMD subjects ≤7 years old at baseline. The model tended to slightly underpredict the decline in NSAA after 1 year for those >7 years old at baseline, but the prediction summary statistics were well maintained within the standard deviation of observed data. Quantitative models such as this may help answer clinically relevant questions to facilitate the development of novel therapies in DMD.

Stroke increasingly affects individuals of working age. An accurate assessment of Readiness for Return-to-Work (RRTW) can help determine the optimal timing for RRTW and facilitate an early reintegration into society. This study investigates the current state of RRTW and the influencing factors among young and middle-aged stroke patients in China. A sample of young and middle-aged stroke patients hospitalized in a tertiary hospital in Henan Province between December 2021 and May 2022 were included in this study. A general information questionnaire and the Readiness for RRTW scale, the Social Support Rate Scale, the Stroke Self-Efficacy Scale, and the Fatigue Severity Scale were administered to the patients. Of the 203 patients successfully surveyed, 60 (29.6%) were in the pre-contemplation stage, 35 (17.2%) in the contemplation stage, 81 (39.9%) in the prepared for action-self-evaluative stage, and 27 (13.3%) in the prepared for action- behavior stage. Logistic regression analysis identified education level, monthly income, time to start rehabilitation therapy, social support, stroke self-efficacy, and fatigue severity as key factors affecting RRTW scale readiness in young and middle-aged stroke patients. The readiness of young and middle-aged stroke patients to Return-to-Work needs to be increased further. Healthcare professionals should consider the influencing factors of RRTW and design targeted intervention programs to facilitate a successful Return-to-Work and normal life.

Objectives: Due to the severity of cancer, patients may experience feelings of helplessness and despair, resulting in demoralization among lung cancer patients. In this study, we investigated the risk factors of demoralization in middle-aged and older Chinese lung cancer patients via their relationship with patients' demographic data and disease characteristics. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional descriptive study using a structured questionnaire including assessments of demographic data and disease, the Demoralization Scale Mandarin Version (DS-MV), the Social Support Rate Scale (SSRS), the Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ), as well as The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC QLQ-C30). Results: Overall, 289/300 (96.3%) patients with lung cancer completed questionnaires. The mean score of DS-MV was 49.27 (SD=15.19) (range, 21-81) and the mean score of SSRS was 33.37 (SD=5.43) (range,17-48). Multiple linear regression analysis identified high demoralization was significantly related to age (p<.001), medical payment (p=.003), times of chemotherapy (p=.026), family monthly income (p=.025), avoidance dimension (p<.001), surrender dimension (p<.001), social support (p=.001), symptom score (p<.001), overall health score (p=.009) and function score (p<.001). Conclusion: This study demonstrates the factors influencing demoralization among middle-aged and older lung cancer patients. Demoralization is a prevalent psychiatric problem in Chinese lung cancer patients. Therefore, we recommend strong social support to be protective against demoralization. We suggest that medical staff establish the concept of social support for patients with lung cancer, actively seek effective resources from family, friends, and other social support organizations to help patients establish a social support system that improves patient courage and confidence in their post-cancer life.

OBJECTIVE: To study the ultrasonographic features of the central nervous system (CNS) in normally developing embryos and fetuses with a crown-rump length (CRL) of 10-84 mm, utilizing a high-frequency transvaginal probe in conjunction with various three-dimensional (3D) imaging modes. METHODS: From January 2020 to February 2021, 210 normally developing embryos and fetuses in early pregnancy were enrolled and classified based on their gestational age. A high-frequency transvaginal transducer was used to perform 2D and 3D ultrasounds, and the 3D images were saved. These images were then processed using multiple 3D technologies, such as HD live silhouette, OmniView, and TUI. Additionally, the circumference of the vermis was measured through the posterior fontanelle. RESULTS: Beginning at the 10 mm CRL stage of embryonic development, high-frequency transvaginal 3D ultrasound imaging was able to clearly visualize the prosencephalon, mesencephalon, and rhombencephalon. Notable changes were observed in the rhombencephalon during the 16-22 mm CRL stage, including the visualization of the pontine flexure and cerebellar primordium. At 23-40 mm CRL, there was a distinct pontine flexure, and the developing cerebellum, the fourth ventricle, and choroid plexus of the fourth ventricle (4th VCP) could be observed. The roof of the rhombencephalon was partitioned by the 4th VCP into the anterior membranous area (AMA) located rostrally and the posterior membranous area situated caudally. Additionally, the original Blake's pouch was identifiable. Among fetuses measuring 41-84 mm CRL, the AMA progressively decreased in size as the vermis developed. From the mid-sagittal view, the orientation of the 4th VCP seemed to shift from being perpendicular to the neural tube's long axis to being parallel to it. Furthermore, there was a significant correlation between CRL and vermis circumference. CONCLUSION: Using three-dimensional transvaginal ultrasound scanning, detailed visualization of the morphological changes in the CNS during normal embryonic development from 7 to 13+6  weeks is possible. This technology can aid in accurately characterizing the embryonic origin of the CNS.

Objectives: To investigate myopia progression and associated factors of refractive status among children and adolescents in Tibet and Chongqing in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted to compare rates of myopia and high myopia, axial length (AL), spherical equivalent (SE), outdoor activity time, digital device use, and frequency of visual examinations for children and adolescents affected by myopia in Chongqing and Tibet in 2021. Results: A total of 2,303 students from Chongqing and 1,687 students from Tibet were examined. The overall prevalence of myopia and high myopia in these two groups were 53.80 and 7.04% vs. 43.86 and 1.30%, respectively in each case. The Chongqing students had a longer AL than the group from Tibet (23.95 vs. 23.40 mm, respectively; p < 0.001). The mean SE of the students with myopic parents in Tibet was lower than that of the students in Chongqing with myopic parents (-2.57 ± 2.38 diopters (D) vs. -2.30 ± 2.34 D, respectively) (p < 0.001). Conversely, the mean SE of the students from urban areas in Chongqing was lower than that of the students in Tibet (-2.26 ± 2.25 D vs. -1.75 ± 1.96 D, respectively; p < 0.001). The Chongqing students exhibited lower SE (-2.44 ± 2.22 D) than their Tibetan counterparts (mean SE: -1.78 ± 1.65 D (p = 0.0001) when spending more than 2.5 h outdoors. For example, 61.35% of the students in Tibet spent more than 2.5 h outdoors daily, compared with 43.04% of the students in Chongqing. Correspondingly, the proportion of students using digital devices in Tibet (64.43%) was lower than that in Chongqing (100%). For the latter, 38.62% of the students in Chongqing spent more than 2.5 h online using digital devices compared to 10.49% of the students in Tibet. Greater monitoring of visual status was observed for the Chongqing students (mean SE: -1.90 ± 1.98 D) compared with students in Tibet (mean SE: -2.68 ± 1.85 D) (p = 0.0448), with the frequency of optimal examinations being every 6 months. Outdoor activity time was identified as a common risk factor for myopia in both of the populations examined, with odds ratios (ORs) of 1.84 (95% CI: 1.79-1.90) in Chongqing and 0.84 (95% CI: 0.73-0.96) in Tibet. Digital screen time was associated with myopia and high myopia in Chongqing, with ORs of 1.15 (95% CI: 1.08-1.22) and 1.06 (95% CI: 0.94-1.77), respectively. Digital screen time was also found to be a risk factor for high myopia in Tibet (OR: 1.21, 95% CI: 0.77-1.61). The type of digital devices used was also associated with myopia and high myopia in Tibet (OR: 1.33, 95% CI: 1.06-1.68 and OR: 1.49, 95% CI: 0.84-2.58, respectively). Finally, examination frequency was found to correlate with high myopia in the Tibet group (OR: 1.79, 95% CI: 0.66-2.71). Conclusion: Based on our data, we observed that the prevalence of refractive errors in children and adolescents was significantly lower in Tibet than in Chongqing. These results are potentially due to prolonged outdoor activity time, and the type and time of use for digital devices that characterize the group of children and adolescents from Tibet. It is recommended that parents and children in Chongqing would benefit from increased awareness regarding myopia progression and its prevention.

Quantum many-body systems away from equilibrium host a rich variety of exotic phenomena that are forbidden by equilibrium thermodynamics. A prominent example is that of discrete time crystals1-8, in which time-translational symmetry is spontaneously broken in periodically driven systems. Pioneering experiments have observed signatures of time crystalline phases with trapped ions9,10, solid-state spin systems11-15, ultracold atoms16,17 and superconducting qubits18-20. Here we report the observation of a distinct type of non-equilibrium state of matter, Floquet symmetry-protected topological phases, which are implemented through digital quantum simulation with an array of programmable superconducting qubits. We observe robust long-lived temporal correlations and subharmonic temporal response for the edge spins over up to 40 driving cycles using a circuit of depth exceeding 240 and acting on 26 qubits. We demonstrate that the subharmonic response is independent of the initial state, and experimentally map out a phase boundary between the Floquet symmetry-protected topological and thermal phases. Our results establish a versatile digital simulation approach to exploring exotic non-equilibrium phases of matter with current noisy intermediate-scale quantum processors21.

Controllable Rydberg atom arrays have provided new insights into fundamental properties of quantum matter both in and out of equilibrium. In this work, we study the effect of experimentally relevant positional disorder on Rydberg atoms trapped in a 2D square lattice under antiblockade (facilitation) conditions. We show that the facilitation conditions lead the connectivity graph of a particular subspace of the full Hilbert space to form a 2D Lieb lattice, which features a singular flat band. Remarkably, we find three distinct regimes as the disorder strength is varied: a critical regime, a delocalized but nonergodic regime, and a regime with a disorder-induced flat band. The critical regime's existence depends crucially upon the singular flat band in our model, and is absent in any 1D array or ladder system. We propose to use quench dynamics to probe the three different regimes experimentally.

Objectives: In this study, we investigated the physical activity status and impact factors in patients after percutaneous coronary intervention in China. Methods: This cross-sectional survey was conducted from January to October 2019. A total of 260 participants were recruited in the cardiovascular department who had successfully undergone percutaneous coronary intervention after one year for physical re-examination at 2 hospitals in Henan Province. They were investigated using 5 questionnaires - the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Long Form, the Exercise Self-efficacy Questionnaire, the Multi-dimensional Fatigue Scale, the Social Support Rating Scale, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale. Results: After percutaneous coronary intervention, most patients were at low and moderate intensity physical activity and 60.8% of patients did not meet the recommended amount of guidelines. Through the analysis of the influencing factors of physical activity in patients with coronary heart disease stent implantation, the status of physical activity was affected by the NYHA classification, LVEF, exercise self-efficacy, fatigue, and social support. Conclusions: The level of physical activity of patients after percutaneous coronary intervention needs to be improved further. In clinical practice, nursing practitioners should strengthen the health education of patients' exercise rehabilitation to improve the level of physical activity and reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular events.

Background: The Covid-19 pandemic restricts children and adolescents from doing normal daily activities such as playing outdoors and going to school. The incidence and prevalence of myopia have increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study was to investigate and evaluate the impact of the home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic on the progression of myopia among children and adolescents in Chongqing, China. Methods: The survey was conducted by using stratified samplings. Samples were randomly selected from the 2019 National Student Physique and Health Survey database, and their visual function and refractive data were compared with those in 2020. Vision-related behavior questionnaire including digital screen exposure was applied to investigate the correlation between eye parameter and eye health-related behavior. Results: A total of 1,733 and 1,728 students were enrolled in 2020 and 2019, respectively. The percentage of myopia students was 55.02% in 2020, which was higher than that in 2019 (44.62%). The mean uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA, LogMAR, 0.35 ± 0.42) in 2020 was higher than that in 2019 (0.27 ± 0.36, P < 0.001). The mean spherical equivalent (SE) refraction (-1.94 ± 2.13 D) in 2020 was lower than that in 2019 (-1.64 ± 5.49 D, P < 0.001). For students who used digital devices for online courses, the mean SE in the television group (-1.10 ± 1.49 D) was better than that in the computer group (-2.03 ± 2.37 D, P = 0.0017) and in the cell phone group (-2.02 ± 2.09 D, P = 0.0028). The average duration of online classes (r = -0.27, P < 0.0001), the number of online classes per day (r = -0.33, P < 0.0001), as well as digital screen exposure time (r = -0.20, P < 0.0001) were negatively correlated with SE, and the average time of outdoor activity (r = 0.20, P < 0.0001) was positively correlated with SE. Conclusions: Increased digital screen exposure contributes to myopic progression in children and adolescents of Chongqing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Suitable digital devices should be provided for online classes and outdoor activity should be advocated to prevent myopic pandemic.

RESUMEN

Quantum computers and simulators may offer significant advantages over their classical counterparts, providing insights into quantum many-body systems and possibly improving performance for solving exponentially hard problems, such as optimization and satisfiability. Here, we report the implementation of a low-depth Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) using an analog quantum simulator. We estimate the ground-state energy of the Transverse Field Ising Model with long-range interactions with tunable range, and we optimize the corresponding combinatorial classical problem by sampling the QAOA output with high-fidelity, single-shot, individual qubit measurements. We execute the algorithm with both an exhaustive search and closed-loop optimization of the variational parameters, approximating the ground-state energy with up to 40 trapped-ion qubits. We benchmark the experiment with bootstrapping heuristic methods scaling polynomially with the system size. We observe, in agreement with numerics, that the QAOA performance does not degrade significantly as we scale up the system size and that the runtime is approximately independent from the number of qubits. We finally give a comprehensive analysis of the errors occurring in our system, a crucial step in the path forward toward the application of the QAOA to more general problem instances.

We study one-dimensional spin-1/2 models in which strict confinement of Ising domain walls leads to the fragmentation of Hilbert space into exponentially many disconnected subspaces. Whereas most previous works emphasize dipole moment conservation as an essential ingredient for such fragmentation, we instead require two commuting U(1) conserved quantities associated with the total domain-wall number and the total magnetization. The latter arises naturally from the confinement of domain walls. Remarkably, while some connected components of the Hilbert space thermalize, others are integrable by Bethe ansatz. We further demonstrate how this Hilbert-space fragmentation pattern arises perturbatively in the confining limit of Z_{2} gauge theory coupled to fermionic matter, leading to a hierarchy of timescales for motion of the fermions. This model can be realized experimentally in two complementary settings.

This systematic review sought to evaluate the effectiveness of non-facilitated meaningful activities for older people with dementia in long-term care facilities. Searches were conducted in PubMed; CINAHL; EMBASE; Web of science; PsycINFO; Cochrane; ProQuest; and ClinicalTrials.gov to identify articles published between January 2004 and October 2019. A total of six studies were included. Results implied that current randomised controlled trials or controlled trials about non-facilitated meaningful activities for people with living dementia in long-term care facilitates are limited, but those included in this review were of adequate methodological quality. Meaningful non-facilitated activities, such as music, stimulated family presence, animal-like social robot PARO/plush toy and lifelike dolls, may have beneficial effects on agitation, emotional well-being, feelings of pleasure, engagement, and sleep quality. However, there remains a lack of conclusive and robust evidence to support these psychological and physiological effects of non-facilitated meaningful activities for older people with dementia living in long-term care facilities by care staff.

BACKGROUND: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been demonstrated to exert crucial mediators in tumor initiation and development. Nevertheless, the roles of circKIF4A in breast cancer (BC) are still not very clear. METHODS: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was conducted to determine the expression of circKIF4A, miR-152, zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1) mRNA and caspase-3. Western blot assay was utilized to examine the protein level of ZEB1. Transwell assay and flow-cytometric analysis were adopted for the evaluation of cell migration, invasion and apoptosis, respectively. The associations among circKIF4A, miR-152 and ZEB1 were predicted by online websites and verified by dual-luciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay. RESULTS: CircKIF4A and ZEB1 were conspicuously upregulated and miR-152 was markedly reduced in BC tissues and cells. Deficiency of circKIF4A repressed migration, invasion and induced apoptosis of BC cells. Moreover, circKIF4A was confirmed to be a sponge of miR-152 and miR-152 could bind to ZEB1. MiR-152 inhibition or ZEB1 overexpression abolished the impacts of circKIF4A knockdown on cell migration, invasion and apoptosis in BC. CONCLUSION: Silencing of circKIF4A hampered cell metastasis and promoted apoptosis by regulating ZEB1 via sponging miR-152 in BC.

String breaking is a central dynamical process in theories featuring confinement, where a string connecting two charges decays at the expense of the creation of new particle-antiparticle pairs. Here, we show that this process can also be observed in quantum Ising chains where domain walls get confined either by a symmetry-breaking field or by long-range interactions. We find that string breaking occurs, in general, as a two-stage process. First, the initial charges remain essentially static and stable. The connecting string, however, can become a dynamical object. We develop an effective description of this motion, which we find is strongly constrained. In the second stage, which can be severely delayed due to these dynamical constraints, the string finally breaks. We observe that the associated timescale can depend crucially on the initial separation between domain walls and can grow by orders of magnitude by changing the distance by just a few lattice sites. We discuss how our results generalize to one-dimensional confining gauge theories and how they can be made accessible in quantum simulator experiments such as Rydberg atoms or trapped ions.

Objectives: To explore the feasibility of using the video-conferencing program, Skype, on iPads with older adults living in long-term care (LTC) facilities.Method: Using a mixed-method design, six residents from one LTC facility in Queensland, Australia participated in a one-off interactive intervention session, followed by post-session semi-structured interviews. The intervention session involved a 15-minutes training session in using Skype, and 30-minutes interactive practise in making and receiving a call using Skype. Residents were interviewed after the intervention session to explore their experience and perceptions of using Skype on the iPad. Reflections about the intervention session were written as study notes by the research team. Qualitative data were analysed using an inductive, thematic analytic approach.Results: Four broad themes emerged: (1) Video-conferencing on iPads is inhibited by age-related cognitive decline and physical frailty; (2) Video-conferencing is an unfamiliar technology for many older residents, and practice and staff assistance are required; (3) Video-conferencing is regarded positively, and seen as a good way of communicating with family/friends; and (4) Use of video-conferencing highlights general concerns held about privacy and cyber security issues.Conclusion: Without adequate staff assistance, video-conferencing via iPads may be challenging for an older population in LTC. Alternatives such as telepresence robots may assist with these challenges.

Abstract@#On the basis of combing the working mechanism of infectious disease prevention and control in French, British and American primary and secondary schools, this paper summarizes the typical models, specific practices and the enlightenment to carry out school infectious disease prevention and control work in China. In view of the problems existing in school health and infectious disease prevention and control work, it proposes to strengthen the relevant legislation on prevention and control of public health emergencies in schools, and to clarify the countermeasures and applicable conditions in each stage of the epidemic development; to establish and improve school public health system top-level design, and to bring school health into the key area of national public health system construction; what s more the school public health professional and technical personnel training, access, employment, treatment, evaluation and incentive should be improved.

PURPOSE: Hepatocellular carcinoma causes considerable mortality and no efficient chemotherapy is available. Novel molecules of plant origin may prove beneficial in the development of therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma. In this study we examined the anticancer effects of Tanshindiol-C (TC) against the hepatocellular carcinoma SNU-4235 cell line. METHODS: Proliferation rate of the SNU-2435 cells was determined by MTT assay. Apoptosis was confirmed by DAPI and annexin V/PI staining. Cell cycle analysis was performed by flow cytometry. MicroRNA expression was checked by qRT-PCR and protein expression by western blotting. The in vivo evaluation of TC was performed in xenografted mice models. RESULTS: TC inhibited the growth of the SNU-4235 cells and exhibited an IC50 of 20 µM. Investigation of the underlying mechanism revealed that TC triggered apoptotic death of the SNU-4235 cells which was also associated with enhancement of the expression of Bax and decrease in the expression of Bcl-2. TC also caused arrest of the cells in the G2/M phase of the cell cycle and also exerted angiogenitic effects. TC also enhanced the expression of the tumor suppressor microRNA-21, 222 and 31. In vivo evaluation of TC revealed that it could inhibit the tumor weight volume, suggestive of the anticancer potential of TC. CONCLUSIONS: In brief, tanshindiol-C exerts anticancer effects on hepatocellular carcinoma by induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest, along with inhibiting the angiogenesis and the expression of tumor suppressive microRNAs. TC could also inhibit the growth of the xenografted tumors and hence could prove to be a potential anticancer agent.

We study the quasiparticle excitation and quench dynamics of the one-dimensional transverse-field Ising model with power-law (1/r^{α}) interactions. We find that long-range interactions give rise to a confining potential, which couples pairs of domain walls (kinks) into bound quasiparticles, analogous to mesonic states in high-energy physics. We show that these quasiparticles have signatures in the dynamics of order parameters following a global quench, and the Fourier spectrum of these order parameters can be exploited as a direct probe of the masses of the confined quasiparticles. We introduce a two-kink model to qualitatively explain the phenomenon of long-range-interaction-induced confinement and to quantitatively predict the masses of the bound quasiparticles. Furthermore, we illustrate that these quasiparticle states can lead to slow thermalization of one-point observables for certain initial states. Our work is readily applicable to current trapped-ion experiments.

Abstract@#To thoroughly implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on preventing and controlling myopia in children, the Ministry of Education together in collaboration with relevant eight departments jointly issued and implemented a plan to tackle and prevent myopia among children and young students. This article focuses on strengthening organizational leadership, optimizing system design, ensuring responsibilities of implerentation, uniting prevention and control efforts, highlighting pilot drive, strengthening demonstration guidance, promoting integration of teaching and medicine, playing the role of experts, insisting on scientific prevention and control, regularly monitoring and early warning, and reducing academic burden. Strengthen physical training, strengthen hardware construction, improve the visual environment, collaborative family-school relationship, comprehensively overcome difficulties, strengthen market supervision, standardize industry behavior, strengthen team building, strengthen professional training, support professional construction, provide intellectual support, increase financial investment, ensure the implementation of funds, strengthen publicity and education, highlight the function of educating people, improve the assessment mechanism, and be accountable according to regulations and laws. This paper summarizes the phased progress made in the comprehensive prevention and control of myopia among children and adolescents in provinces (cities, districts) across China over the past year through the solid implementation of the Plan. A number of phased achievements have been achieved, providing important supports for the construction of a healthy China.

We study the nonequilibrium dynamics of Abelian anyons in a one-dimensional system. We find that the interplay of anyonic statistics and interactions gives rise to spatially asymmetric particle transport together with a novel dynamical symmetry that depends on the anyonic statistical angle and the sign of interactions. Moreover, we show that anyonic statistics induces asymmetric spreading of quantum information, characterized by asymmetric light cones of out-of-time-ordered correlators. Such asymmetric dynamics is in sharp contrast to the dynamics of conventional fermions or bosons, where both the transport and information dynamics are spatially symmetric. We further discuss experiments with cold atoms where the predicted phenomena can be observed using state-of-the-art technologies. Our results pave the way toward experimentally probing anyonic statistics through nonequilibrium dynamics.
